Hubert Deschamps

Hubert Deschamps (September 13, 1923 – December 29, 1998) was a French actor, an emblematic figure in supporting roles in post-war cinema and theatre. His career took off on stage, where he joined the prestigious Théâtre National Populaire company of Jean Vilar, before becoming one of the most prolific and recognizable character actors in French cinema. Specializing in playing gruff, fussy, or slightly clumsy characters, he left his mark on highly successful films such as Louis Malle's *Zazie dans le Métro* (1960), Gérard Oury's *Le Corniaud* (1965), and Francis Veber's *La Chèvre* (1981). He was also a well-regarded voice actor, lending his voice to the wolf in the French-dubbed version of Disney's *The Sword in the Stone*. Although he did not receive major individual awards, his recognition lies in his vast filmography, which includes over one hundred and fifty appearances, and in his status as an indispensable actor, capable of making every brief screen appearance memorable.
