
Ignacy Machowski
Ignacy Machowski (Rzeszów, 5 July 1920 – Warsaw, 11 January 2001) was a Polish theatre, film, and television actor. Considered one of the most prolific and versatile character actors of his generation, his career spanned over fifty years, leaving a significant mark on the post-war Polish cultural landscape. On the big screen, he appeared in dozens of films, collaborating with some of the most important directors of his time. Among his most memorable roles are his appearances in masterpieces such as Andrzej Wajda's *Ashes and Diamonds* (1958) and Wojciech Has's *The Saragossa Manuscript* (1965). At the same time, he maintained an intense theatrical career, becoming a prominent figure on the Warsaw stage, particularly at the Teatr Ateneum. For his outstanding contribution to national art and culture, he was awarded numerous state honours, including the prestigious Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
