Inge Deutschkron

Inge Deutschkron was a German-Israeli journalist and writer of Jewish origin who survived the Shoah by hiding in Berlin. After the war, she pursued a career in journalism, working as a correspondent from Bonn and, from 1972, from Tel Aviv for the Israeli newspaper *Maariv*. Her most famous work is the autobiography *I Wore the Yellow Star* (1978), in which she recounts her experience of persecution and survival thanks to the help of the so-called "Silent Heroes," German citizens who protected her. This theme is also central to the play *Ab heute heißt du Sara*, which she co-created. She dedicated her life to bearing witness and educating about the Shoah. For her commitment, she received numerous awards, including the Carl von Ossietzky Medal, the Moses Mendelssohn Prize, and the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. In 2018, she was made an honorary citizen of Berlin.
