
Ion Gabella
Ion Gabella (Villeret, May 27, 1952 – Lausanne, July 11, 2011) was an Italian-speaking Swiss actor. Trained at the Geneva School of Dramatic Arts, he developed a versatile career in theater, cinema, and television. He was a co-founder of the Teatro della Tosse in Genoa, an institution to which he dedicated a significant part of his artistic career. His fame with the general public is mainly due to his collaboration with director Silvio Soldini, for whom he played prominent roles in films such as *Pane e tulipani* (2000) and *Agata e la tempesta* (2004). For his performance in *Pane e tulipani*, he won the prestigious Swiss Film Prize for Best Supporting Actor. He also participated in numerous productions for the Italian-language Swiss broadcaster, Radiotelevisione svizzera (RSI), consistently distinguishing himself with his intense stage presence and his ability to portray characters with depth.
