Irène Galter
Irène Galter, stage name of Irena Gelfter (born in Merano, September 16, 1931), was an Italian actress primarily active in the 1950s. Discovered at a very young age by director Giuseppe De Santis, she made her debut as the lead in the neorealist film *Roma ore 11* (1952), which brought her to the attention of both the public and critics. Her fresh beauty and natural acting skills made her one of the most well-known faces of post-war Italian cinema. Her career, though brief, was intense, and she starred in notable works such as Antonio Pietrangeli's *Il sole negli occhi* (1953), considered her most important role, and Steno and Monicelli's *Le infedeli* (1953). She also acted in *Processo contro ignoti* (1952) and in international productions, such as the French-Italian co-production *L'esclave* (1953). Despite a promising career, she decided to retire from the screen at the end of the decade, after her marriage, to devote herself to her private life. Although she did not receive any specific awards, she is recognized as an icon of Italian cinema of her time, appreciated for her spontaneity and talent.
