Isabel Jewell (1907-1972) was an American actress, active primarily during the Golden Age of Hollywood. After beginning her career on Broadway, she moved to film in the early 1930s, where she established herself as one of the most recognizable character actresses of the period. She specialized in supporting roles, often portraying outspoken, unfortunate, or hard-bitten women. Among her most memorable performances are her role as the condemned seamstress in *A Tale of Two Cities* (1935), Gloria Stone in *Lost Horizon* (1937), and Emmy Slattery in *Gone with the Wind* (1939). She also appeared in notable films such as *Marked Woman* (1937) alongside Bette Davis, showcasing remarkable dramatic intensity. Although she did not receive major awards, her career continued with smaller roles in film and television, and she is remembered today for leaving an indelible mark on some of the most iconic films of her era.
