Jack Buchanan
Walter John "Jack" Buchanan (1891-1957) was a Scottish actor, singer, dancer, and producer who became one of the greatest stars of British musical theatre and cinema during the 1920s and 1940s. His career took off on the stages of London's West End, where he established himself as the archetype of the elegant gentleman in a tuxedo and top hat. Moving into film, he achieved success both in British productions, such as *Goodnight, Vienna* (1932), and in Hollywood. His most internationally famous performance is probably that of theatre director Jeffrey Cordova in the MGM musical film *The Band Wagon* (1953), alongside Fred Astaire. In addition to acting, he was also a prolific producer and theatre impresario, managing several London theatres. Although he did not receive any major awards, he has remained an iconic figure, a symbol of a sophisticated and debonair style that defined an entire era of British entertainment.
