Jacqueline deWit (1912-1998) was an American actress, active primarily between the 1940s and 1960s. A founding member of Orson Welles' prestigious Mercury Theatre, she began her career in theater and radio before moving to Hollywood. In film, she established herself as a versatile character actress, often in roles of sophisticated, cold, or calculating women. Her most notable performances include those in *The Leopard Man* (1943) and especially in *All the King's Men* (1949), the Academy Award winner for Best Picture, in which she played the mother of Anne Stanton. Her filmography includes collaborations with major studios such as RKO and Columbia Pictures. Her career also continued successfully in television, with appearances in numerous popular series of the era, such as *Perry Mason* and *The Lone Ranger*. Although she never achieved leading lady status, her contribution to 20th-century film and theater is recognized for her professionalism and her ability to enrich high-profile productions with her performances.
