Jacob Benjamin Gyllenhaal, known as Jake Gyllenhaal, is an American actor and producer born in Los Angeles on December 19, 1980. Hailing from a family with ties to the film industry, he began his career as a child actor, earning his first critical acclaim for his lead role in "October Sky" (1999). He achieved international fame with the cult film "Donnie Darko" (2001). His career was firmly established by his performance in "Brokeback Mountain" (2005), for which he won a BAFTA Award and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
