James T. Mack

James T. Mack is an American historian, known for his studies on the history of the American South and the Civil Rights Movement. He currently holds the chair of American History at Yale University, where his research focuses on the racial and political dynamics of the 20th century. His most influential work, "The Long Struggle: Race and Power in the Modern South" (2008), re-examined the post-Reconstruction era, analyzing the interaction of economic and social forces that shaped the region. For this work, he received the prestigious Bancroft Prize in 2009, one of the highest honors in the field of American historiography. Mack is also the author of numerous scholarly articles and the book "From Plantation to Protest" (1995). In recognition of his exceptional contribution to historiography, he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2012, confirming his status as a leading figure in contemporary historical studies.
