Janine Darcey
**Janine Darcey (1917-1993)** was a French actress, known for her film career in the 1930s and 1940s. Her ethereal presence and her ability to play young, often fragile and romantic characters made her a recognizable face of French poetic realism cinema.
She worked with leading directors of the time, establishing herself in significant roles. Among her most memorable roles are those in masterpieces such as Marcel Carné's *Le Quai des brumes* (Port of Shadows, 1938), where she played the young maid, and Carné's *Les Visiteurs du soir* (The Visitors of the Evening, 1942), in the role of Anne. Other important appearances include *Adieu Léonard* (Farewell, Leonard, 1943) and *Pépé le Moko* (The Bandit of the Casbah, 1937).
Although she continued to act occasionally in later years, her heyday was during the golden age of French cinema before and during the war.
