János Gémes, better known by his stage name DJ Shuriken, is a Hungarian disc jockey, producer, and music editor, and a prominent figure in the Budapest scene. His career is defined by his profound musical knowledge and an eclectic selection that ranges from funk, soul, and jazz to hip hop and rare Eastern European records. He is a member of the celebrated hip hop group Punnany Massif and the co-host of a long-running show on Tilos Rádió, often alongside DJ Keyser. His work includes numerous productions and mixes, as well as collaborations with artists such as The Qualitons. An active promoter of vinyl culture, he is one of the founders of Budapest Vinyl. Through his work with Punnany Massif, he has received major accolades, including several Fonogram Awards and an MTV Europe Music Award for Best Hungarian Act, consolidating his status as an influential figure in his country's contemporary music scene.
