
János Görbe
János Görbe (Jánoshalma, November 12, 1912 – Budapest, September 5, 1968) was a Hungarian actor, considered one of the most significant figures in his country's cinema and theatre. After graduating from the Academy of Dramatic Art in Budapest in 1939, he began his career in various theatre companies before achieving fame on the big screen. His breakthrough came with the film *Emberek a havason* (People of the Mountains, 1942), where his portrayal of a mountain man defined his image as an actor specializing in strong, principled characters of the common people. His most important works include *Valahol Európában* (Somewhere in Europe, 1948), *Ének a búzamezőkről* (Song of the Cornfields, 1947), and the celebrated *Körhinta* (Merry-Go-Round, 1956), which was presented at the Cannes Film Festival. His career was crowned with important honours, including the prestigious Kossuth Prize in 1951 and the Jászai Mari Prize in 1955, a testament to his profound impact on Hungarian culture.
