Jaume Miravitlles

Jaume Miravitlles i Navarra (Figueres, 1906 – Barcelona, 1988) was a Spanish politician, writer, and official of Catalan origin. A member of Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya, during the Spanish Civil War he held the crucial position of Commissar for Propaganda of the Generalitat de Catalunya, coordinating efforts to promote the Republican cause internationally and attracting intellectuals such as George Orwell and André Malraux. Following the Republican defeat, he went into exile, first in France and then in New York, where he founded an advertising agency and continued his work as a writer and journalist. He authored numerous essays and memoirs about his political experience and the conflict, making a significant contribution to the historiography of the period. After returning to Catalonia in 1962, he continued his literary career. For his contribution to Catalan culture and politics, in 1993 the Generalitat de Catalunya posthumously awarded him the Creu de Sant Jordi, one of the highest Catalan honors.
