Jean-Paul Moulinot

Jean-Paul Moulinot (Nice, 30 November 1912 – Ville-d'Avray, 3 December 1989) was a French actor and a leading figure in 20th-century theatre. His career is inextricably linked to the Théâtre National Populaire (TNP), directed by Jean Vilar, where he was a mainstay from 1951 to 1963. During this period, he took part in memorable productions, playing significant roles in plays such as Molière's *The Miser* and Kleist's *The Prince of Homburg*. Subsequently, in 1966, he joined the Comédie-Française, becoming a *sociétaire* in 1973 and remaining with the company until his retirement in 1983. Alongside his stage career, he appeared in numerous films, often in supporting but incisive roles, working with directors such as Jean-Pierre Melville in *Army of Shadows* (1969) and Costa-Gavras in *Z* (1969). Recognized for his interpretive rigour and his versatility, he is considered one of the great character actors of French theatre.
