Jean Vimenet

Jean Vimenet (Paris, 1899 – Paris, 1987) was a French painter and engraver who trained at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Fernand Cormon. A leading figure of the "Peintres de la Réalité Poétique" group, his art is distinguished by an intimate and sensitive approach to reality, far from the more radical avant-garde movements of his time. His works, characterized by harmonious compositions and a delicate, luminous use of color, evoke serene and silent atmospheres. His favorite subjects included landscapes, particularly of Normandy and the Île-de-France, still lifes, and interior scenes. He exhibited regularly at the major Parisian Salons, such as the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Tuileries, establishing himself as one of the most esteemed artists of his generation. Throughout his career, he received significant recognition, including the Prix Blumenthal in 1928 and his appointment as a Knight of the Legion of Honour. Today, his works are held in numerous public collections, including the Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris.
