Jeanne-Joséphine Lumière
Jeanne-Joséphine Lumière, née Costille, was a key figure in the Lumière family enterprise, although often overshadowed by her husband Antoine and her sons Auguste and Louis. She played a fundamental managerial and administrative role within the *Société Antoine Lumière et ses fils*, the photographic plate manufacturing company in Lyon. While Antoine focused on the artistic and technical aspects, Jeanne-Joséphine competently managed the accounting, finances, and personnel management. Her skilled administration ensured the necessary economic stability that allowed her sons to invest time and resources in the research that led to the invention of the Cinematograph. Despite not receiving formal public recognition on par with her sons, her work is now recognized as an essential contribution to the company's success and, indirectly, to the birth of the film industry.
