Jerzy Trela
Jerzy Trela (Leńcze, March 14, 1942 – Kraków, May 15, 2022) was one of the most important and versatile Polish actors in theatre and film. Associated for much of his career with the Stary Teatr in Kraków, he became an icon thanks to his portrayal of Konrad in Adam Mickiewicz's *Dziady* (Forefathers' Eve), directed by Konrad Swinarski, a role considered one of the greatest creations in the history of Polish theatre. He collaborated with other prominent directors such as Jerzy Jarocki and Krystian Lupa, demonstrating an extraordinary stage presence. On the big screen, his charismatic presence and deep voice made him a sought-after performer for directors such as Andrzej Wajda (*Man of Iron*), Krzysztof Kieślowski (*Three Colours: White*), and Jerzy Hoffman (*Quo Vadis?*). He was also a respected pedagogue and professor at the Academy of Theatre Arts in Kraków. For his outstanding artistic merits, he received Poland's highest honours, including the Commander's Cross with Star of the Order of Polonia Restituta and the Gold Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis.
