Jimmy Conlin
Jimmy Conlin (1884–1962) was an American character actor whose long career spanned vaudeville, film, and television. He began on the vaudeville circuit, performing for decades in a comedy duo with his wife, Myrtle Glass. His fame is inextricably linked to director Preston Sturges, who cast him as a key member of his unofficial stock company of actors in nearly all of his films from the 1940s. His most memorable roles include the 'Wienie King' in *Sullivan's Travels* (1941), the befuddled member of the Ale and Quail Club in *The Palm Beach Story* (1942), and the justice of the peace in *The Miracle of Morgan's Creek* (1944). He also worked for other prominent directors, such as Frank Capra, and continued acting until the late 1950s. Although he never received any major awards, his expressive face and impeccable comic timing are recognized as an essential contribution to the success of Hollywood's Golden Age comedies.
