Joan Leslie, born Joan Agnes Theresa Sadie Brodel, was an American actress, singer, and dancer, primarily active during the Golden Age of Hollywood. She rose to prominence in the early 1940s under contract with Warner Bros., becoming one of the studio's most popular ingenues. During this period, she played leading roles in highly successful films such as the film noir *High Sierra* (1941), the war film *Sergeant York* (1941) alongside Gary Cooper, and the biographical musical *Yankee Doodle Dandy* (1942), in which she acted and danced alongside James Cagney. Her other notable performances include *Rhapsody in Blue* (1945) and *The Sky's the Limit* (1943), where she was Fred Astaire's dance partner. After leaving Warner Bros. in the late 1940s, her film career continued in minor productions and later in television. For her contribution to the motion picture industry, she was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
