John Alexander (1923-1990) was an American tenor, known for his long and illustrious career at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Beginning with his debut in 1961 and for over two decades, he was one of the company's leading tenors, appreciated for his powerful voice, solid technique, and exceptional reliability. His vast repertoire primarily included Italian and French operas, with celebrated roles such as Pollione in 'Norma,' which he recorded alongside Joan Sutherland, Rodolfo in 'La bohème,' Don José in 'Carmen,' and the title role in Verdi's 'Don Carlo.' His extensive discography and his long tenure as a leading artist at one of the world's major opera houses are his principal accolades. After retiring from the stage, he dedicated himself to teaching, passing on his experience to new generations of singers.
