John Getz is an American actor, born in Davenport, Iowa, on October 15, 1946. Known for his prolific career as a character actor in both film and television, he began his professional career in theater, winning an Obie Award for his performance in an off-Broadway production. His prominence grew significantly with two iconic roles in the 1980s: Ray, the protagonist in the Coen brothers' debut film, *Blood Simple* (1984), and Stathis Borans, the antagonist in David Cronenberg's cult classic *The Fly* (1986). His extensive filmography includes appearances in notable films such as *Born on the Fourth of July* (1989), *Zodiac* (2007), and *The Social Network* (2010). For the latter, he shared a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture with the rest of the cast.
