John Longden
John Longden (11 November 1900 – 26 May 1971) was a British actor whose career spanned from the silent film era to the 1960s. He is primarily remembered for his collaboration with director Alfred Hitchcock, for whom he played the male lead in *Blackmail* (1929), considered the first British sound film. His association with Hitchcock continued with the films *Juno and the Paycock* (1930) and *The Skin Game* (1931). After a period of success as a leading man during the transition to sound, Longden became a prolific and reliable character actor, appearing in over one hundred films. In the latter part of his career, he often played authority figures such as police inspectors and military officers in numerous British productions, establishing himself as a familiar and constant presence in the cinema of his time, though he did not receive any major awards.
