John Milius (born in St. Louis, April 5, 1944) is an American screenwriter, director, and producer, and a prominent figure of the New Hollywood movement. Known for his vigorous style and masculine themes, he has authored iconic screenplays. Among these, his screenplay for *Apocalypse Now* (1979) stands out, earning him an Academy Award nomination. He also made significant contributions to films such as *Jeremiah Johnson* (1972), the *Dirty Harry* series, and the famous USS Indianapolis monologue in *Jaws* (1975). As a director, his most famous work is *Conan the Barbarian* (1982), which launched the career of Arnold Schwarzenegger. He also directed classics such as *The Wind and the Lion* (1975), the cult surf film *Big Wednesday* (1978), and the controversial *Red Dawn* (1984), a manifesto of anti-communist cinema of the Reagan era. His filmmaking, characterized by an epic of individualism and a code of honor, has made him one of the most influential and iconoclastic voices of his generation.
