Johnny Gatcombe
Mark Anthony Peter Phillips is a former British equestrian, one of the foremost figures in the discipline of eventing. His competitive career culminated with a team gold medal at the 1972 Munich Olympics and an individual silver medal at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. His accolades also include victories at the prestigious Badminton Horse Trials (1976) and Burghley Horse Trials (1971), as well as numerous international successes that made him a leading figure of his generation. As a member of the national team, he contributed to winning gold medals at the World and European Championships. After retiring, he established himself as a renowned cross-country course designer, creating layouts for top-level events, including the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He has also dedicated himself to coaching and sports journalism. For his services to equestrianism, he was appointed a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO).
