
Jonathan Hale
Jonathan Hale was a prolific Canadian-American character actor, best known for his role as J.C. Dithers, the irascible boss of Dagwood Bumstead, in the popular *Blondie* comedy film series between 1938 and 1946. His extensive filmography, which includes approximately 250 titles, made him one of the most recognizable faces of classic Hollywood cinema. In addition to his iconic role in *Blondie*, he played Inspector Fernack in several films of *The Saint* series and appeared in numerous notable productions, often in authoritative roles, such as *It Happened One Night* (1934), *The Lady from Shanghai* (1947), and Alfred Hitchcock's *Strangers on a Train* (1951). His career, which mainly spanned the 1930s to the 1950s, exemplifies the reliability and versatility of supporting actors of the era. He retired from acting shortly before his death in 1957.
