Jorge Martínez de Hoyos

Jorge Martínez de Hoyos (1920-1997) was a Mexican actor and a prominent figure in his country's Golden Age of cinema. Internationally recognized for his role as the bandit Hilario in *The Magnificent Seven* (1960), he had a prolific career that spanned both national cinema and major Hollywood productions. His imposing screen presence and versatility led him to collaborate with world-renowned directors such as Luis Buñuel in *Nazarín* (1959), John Huston in *The Unforgiven* (1960), and Sam Peckinpah in *The Wild Bunch* (1969). In his home country, his talent was celebrated with two Ariel Awards, Mexico's highest film honor: one for Best Supporting Actor for *Sombra verde* (1955) and one for Best Actor for *Canasta de cuentos mexicanos* (1957). In addition to his extensive film work, he was also a respected and active stage actor, making a significant contribution to Mexico's cultural scene.
