Joseph Leon, born Joseph Leonard (New York, 1923 – Los Angeles, 2002), was an American actor whose career was primarily in theater. A Broadway veteran, he was a member of the original casts of acclaimed musicals, including *Bells Are Ringing* (1956) and *Fiddler on the Roof* (1964), both of which won the Tony Award for Best Musical. In the latter, he played the role of the bookseller Avram, a character he also reprised in the 1981 revival. Alongside his theater career, Leon worked as a character actor in film and television. He is best known to the general public for his role as Sydney Schumacher, the resort guest whose bag is stolen, in the cult film *Dirty Dancing* (1987). His career also includes appearances in numerous television series, including *Spenser: For Hire* and *Law & Order*, consolidating his reputation as a versatile and reliable actor.
