
Juan José Gurrola
Juan José Gurrola (Mexico City, 1935 – 2007) was a multifaceted Mexican artist and a central figure in his country's avant-garde cultural scene. His career was marked by constant experimentation across various disciplines, including theater, film, architecture, and the visual arts. As a theater director, he is considered one of Mexico's most important innovators. His stage productions, often provocative and conceptual, challenged traditional conventions. He was a key figure in the "Teatro Viva México" group and collaborated with prominent artists of the time. In film, he directed the short film *Tajimara* (1965), part of the omnibus film *Amor, amor, amor*, which received international recognition. In 2004, his vast and influential artistic output earned him the National Prize for Arts and Sciences, the highest recognition granted by the Mexican government in the field of Fine Arts.
