Juan Francisco Margallo Rivera, born in Cáceres in 1940, is a Spanish actor, director, and playwright, considered a key figure in his country's independent theatre. He began his career in the 1960s, becoming a leading exponent of the "teatro independiente" (independent theatre) movement. He was a co-founder of the Tábano group, with which he created the cult show "Castañuela 70," a satirical work that was censored by the Francoist regime. His film career is equally extensive, with appearances in over fifty films directed by filmmakers such as Pedro Almodóvar, Carlos Saura, and Fernando León de Aranoa. Among his most notable roles are those in "¿Qué he hecho yo para merecer esto?", "El Bola," and the recent success "Campeones." For his contribution to the performing arts, he has received numerous awards, including the National Theatre Prize in 2011, shared with Petra Martínez, and the Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts in 2022.
