Juliano Ribeiro Salgado, born in Paris in 1974, is a Brazilian director, screenwriter, and cinematographer. The son of the celebrated photographer Sebastião Salgado, he began his film career after studying at the London Film School, making documentaries and short films. His most internationally renowned work is the documentary *The Salt of the Earth* (2014), co-directed with German director Wim Wenders. The film, an intimate and powerful portrait of his father's life and work, achieved widespread critical acclaim, receiving numerous prestigious awards. These include the Special Jury Prize in the "Un Certain Regard" section at the Cannes Film Festival, the César Award for Best Documentary in 2015, and an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary Feature. His filmography also includes other works, often focused on social and environmental themes, continuing a civic commitment similar to his father's.
