Julius Molnar
Julius Molnar (1880-1933) was a Hungarian-American painter and a prominent figure of the Cleveland School. Born in Eperjes, Hungary (now Prešov, Slovakia), he studied in Budapest before emigrating to the United States and settling in Cleveland, Ohio, where he became a central figure in the vibrant local art scene. His artistic output is known for its landscapes, cityscapes, and industrial scenes, characterized by vigorous brushwork and a refined modernist sense of color. His subjects often included the industrial areas of Cleveland and New England seascapes, particularly of Gloucester, Massachusetts. Throughout his career, Molnar received numerous accolades, exhibiting regularly and winning several awards at the prestigious "May Shows" of the Cleveland Museum of Art, which solidified his reputation as one of the most important artists of the region in the early twentieth century.
