
Jun Hamamura
Jun Hamamura (Hamamura Jun, 浜村純; Fukuoka, February 7, 1906 – Tokyo, June 21, 1995) was a Japanese actor. A prolific character actor, his career spanned over six decades, with more than 250 film and television appearances. He is best known for his supporting roles in masterpieces of Japanese cinema, collaborating with world-renowned directors. His most notable performances include roles in Akira Kurosawa's *Ikiru* (1952) and *Seven Samurai* (1954), Ishirō Honda's *Godzilla* (1954), and Masaki Kobayashi's *Harakiri* (1962). His talent was recognized with prestigious awards, including the Blue Ribbon Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performances in Shōhei Imamura's *The Insect Woman* (1963) and *A Legend or Was It?* (1963), and the Mainichi Film Award for *Pigs and Battleships* (1961), also by Imamura. His distinctive presence and versatility made him an iconic figure and one of the most recognizable faces of post-war Japanese cinema.
