
Jung Young-sook
Jung Young-sook is a South Korean literary translator and academic, known for her fundamental contribution to the dissemination of Italian literature in South Korea. A Professor Emerita at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul, she has dedicated her career to translating major works of Italian culture into Korean. Her most notable translations include Umberto Eco's *The Name of the Rose*, a publishing success that introduced the author to the wider Korean public. Her meticulous work also includes the translation of classics by authors such as Italo Calvino, Niccolò Machiavelli, and Claudio Magris, making them accessible to new generations of readers. For her tireless work as a cultural mediator, she has received prestigious awards from the Italian government. In 2012, she was awarded the National Prize for Translation and was subsequently made a Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy, a testament to her crucial role in strengthening cultural ties between the two countries.
