Karen Winther (born 1978) is a Norwegian director and screenwriter, known for her documentaries that explore complex themes such as extremism and deradicalization. Her career is inextricably linked to her personal experience, as she was part of far-right movements in Norway during her youth. This experience deeply informs her most celebrated work, the autobiographical documentary *Exit* (also known as *The Betrayal*, 2018), in which she confronts her own past and dialogues with other former extremists from different ideological backgrounds. The film received international critical acclaim for its intimate and courageous approach, earning a nomination for Best Documentary at the Amanda Awards, Norway's most important film awards. Her other works include *The Optimists* (2013), a documentary with a different tone that follows a volleyball team of women aged 66 to 98, demonstrating her versatility as a filmmaker.
