Kathleen Neal Cleaver, an American activist, lawyer, and academic, is a central figure in the Black Power movement. After her early involvement with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), she joined the Black Panther Party in 1967, becoming the Communications Secretary and the first woman to join its Central Committee. After a period in exile, she resumed her studies, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree, summa cum laude, in history and a Juris Doctor from Yale University. Her academic career has included faculty positions at prestigious institutions such as Emory University and Yale Law School, focusing her research and teaching on the history of Black radicalism and human rights. Among her most important works is her role as co-editor of the essay anthology *Liberation, Imagination, and the Black Panther Party*. Her career is widely recognized for combining militant activism with rigorous academic analysis, contributing significantly to the historical and legal understanding of the Black revolutionary movement.
