Kenjiro Uemura, born in 1981, is a Japanese mangaka primarily known for his romantic comedy and slice-of-life stories, characterized by a clean drawing style and a narrative that explores the sweetness of human relationships. His most successful work is *Kawaii Hito* (known in English as *A Side Character's Love Story*), which began serialization in 2014. It tells the love story between Hanazono, a florist with an intimidating appearance but a kind heart, and Suzuka, a university student. With this manga, Uemura has gained widespread public and critical acclaim, winning the prestigious Denshi Comic Taishō (E-book Manga Award) in 2018 and placing in prominent rankings such as "Kono Manga ga Sugoi!". His work is distinguished by its ability to create empathetic characters and positive stories, delicately subverting stereotypes related to physical appearance and celebrating inner kindness.
