Kheda Barech Defai is a Sahrawi poet and writer born in the refugee camps of Tindouf, Algeria. Writing in Spanish, she is considered one of the most significant voices in contemporary Sahrawi literature and is part of the so-called "Friendship Generation," a group of writers educated in Cuba. Her work sensitively explores themes such as exile, memory, the identity of her people, and the condition of women in the desert. Her most notable works include the poetry collection *El Grito del Silencio* and the book of short stories *El desierto en la memoria*. Her literary work has earned her several prestigious awards, including the Poetry Prize from the Sahrawi Ministry of Culture's literary competition and the "Julio Cortázar" Short Story Prize from the University of La Laguna, consolidating her role as an intellectual and cultural spokesperson for the Sahrawi people.
