Kiyoshi Yanagawa
Yukito Ayatsuji, born Naoyuki Uchida, is a Japanese writer born in Kyoto on December 23, 1960. Considered one of the most influential figures in contemporary Japanese mystery fiction, he is known for leading the revival of the *honkaku* (orthodox mystery) genre. His career was launched in 1987 with his debut novel, *The Decagon House Murders*, which initiated the *shin honkaku* literary movement. His works are characterized by complex plots, locked-room mysteries, and an atmosphere of suspense inspired by the classics of the genre. In addition to the series featuring the architect-detective Kiyoshi Shimada, he is well-known for the horror novel *Another*, which was adapted into a highly successful manga and anime. In 1992, he won the prestigious Mystery Writers of Japan Award for the novel *Tokeikan no Satsujin* (*The Clock House Murders*). He was also one of the founders and president of the Honkaku Mystery Writers Club of Japan, confirming his central role in the genre.
