Koichi Nakamura

Koichi Nakamura is a Japanese programmer and game designer, a key figure in the video game industry, and the founder of Chunsoft. His career took off after winning a programming contest by Enix, which led him to become the lead programmer for the early entries of the celebrated *Dragon Quest* series. Collaborating with Yuji Horii and Akira Toriyama, his work was instrumental in defining the JRPG genre. With his company, Nakamura later innovated the market by creating the "sound novel" genre with titles such as *Otogirisō* and *Kamaitachi no Yoru*. He is also the creator of the successful roguelike series *Mystery Dungeon*, which began with *Torneko no Daibōken*. Currently the president of Spike Chunsoft, he has received prestigious awards for his lasting impact on the industry, including the Special Award at the CEDEC Awards and the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award at the Japan Game Awards.
