Lee Duncan

Lee Duncan (1893-1960) was an American dog trainer, known worldwide for discovering and launching the career of the German Shepherd Rin Tin Tin. During World War I, while in France, Duncan rescued a puppy from a bombed-out kennel, bringing him back to the United States. Recognizing the dog's incredible intelligence and agility, he trained him for film. Starting in 1922, Rin Tin Tin became one of the biggest stars of silent cinema, starring in over 25 films for Warner Bros. and being instrumental in saving the studio from bankruptcy. Lee Duncan was his sole trainer and manager throughout his entire career. After the original Rin Tin Tin's death in 1932, Duncan continued to perpetuate the legend by training his descendants, who appeared in other films and in the famous 1950s television series, "The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin." The enduring success of his work is symbolized by the star dedicated to Rin Tin Tin on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
