Lidia Quaranta

Lidia Quaranta (Turin, March 6, 1891 – Turin, March 5, 1928) was an Italian actress, considered one of the first and most celebrated divas of Italian silent cinema. Her career is inextricably linked to the epic film *Cabiria* (1914) by Giovanni Pastrone, produced by Itala Film. In the film, she played the title role, a performance that brought her international fame and established her as an icon of her time. Before and after *Cabiria*, she appeared in numerous other successful films, including *I misteri del castello di Monroe* (1914) and *Maciste alpino* (1916), consolidating her status. Although she did not receive formal awards by modern standards, her immense popular and critical success made her one of the highest-paid and most admired figures of the era, a true symbol of early Italian cinema. Like many other silent film stars, her career suffered a rapid decline with the changes in the film industry. She died prematurely on the eve of her thirty-seventh birthday.
