
Lockwood West
Lockwood West (Birkenhead, 28 July 1905 – Brighton, 28 March 1989) was a British actor. A prolific and respected character actor, his career spanned over fifty years across theatre, film, and television. He is particularly known for the role of the solicitor Sir Geoffrey Dillon in the acclaimed television series *Upstairs, Downstairs*. He also appeared in other successful productions such as *Doctor Who* (in the serial *The Dæmons*), *I, Claudius*, and *Porterhouse Blue*. On the big screen, he played numerous supporting roles in films such as *Bedazzled* (1967) and *The Dresser* (1983). His stage career also included performances with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Specialising in authority figures such as judges, doctors, and country gentlemen, West was a familiar face and a constant presence in the British entertainment landscape of the 20th century, appreciated for his reliability and professionalism.
