Loye Payen
Rolande Payen, known by the pseudonym Lorn Payen, was a French writer and translator, a prominent figure in the landscape of 20th-century Francophone science fiction. Her writing career is mainly associated with the *Cycle des Chroniques de l'Île-Monde*, a series of space opera novels that explores complex themes. Her most celebrated works include *Les Voies d'Almagiel* and *Les Chasseurs de la nuit*, the latter of which was awarded the Grand Prix de la science-fiction française in 1980, now known as the Grand Prix de l'Imaginaire. Alongside her own writing, Payen had an extensive and pivotal career as a translator. Her work introduced French audiences to major Anglophone authors such as Philip K. Dick, Frank Herbert, whose *Dune* series she translated, and Jack Vance, decisively contributing to the dissemination and legitimization of the genre in France.
