Magdalena Flores is a Mexican cultural and linguistic custodian, recognized as the last fluent speaker of the southwestern variant of the Tepehuan language, commonly known as Caxcan. A native of Juchipila, Zacatecas, she has dedicated her life to the preservation and transmission of her heritage. Her career has developed through close collaboration with linguists and researchers, to whom she has imparted a vast repertoire of oral knowledge, including songs, stories, and the language's fundamental lexicon, enabling its systematic documentation. For her irreplaceable role in safeguarding this endangered language, she has received significant recognitions. Notable among these is her designation as a "Tesoro Humano Vivo" (Living Human Treasure) by the state government of Zacatecas in 2017, a title that honors individuals who embody traditional skills and knowledge of inestimable value.
