Margit Symo
Margit Symo, pseudonym of Margit Zsimo (Budapest, 13 September 1913 – Munich, 6 October 1992), was a Hungarian actress, naturalized German. She began her film career in Germany in the early 1930s, but with the advent of Nazism, she moved to Italy, where she quickly became one of the most popular stars of the "white telephone" cinema. Her success is primarily associated with the sophisticated comedies and dramas of the period, in which she distinguished herself with her elegance and talent. Her most significant works include collaborations with Vittorio De Sica in Mario Camerini's *Il signor Max* (1937) and Augusto Genina's *Castelli in aria* (1939). Other important titles in her filmography include *La contessa di Parma* (1937) and *L'orologio a cucù* (1938), often directed by her husband, director Ferdinando Maria Poggioli. In the post-war period, her presence on the big screen was reduced to character roles, while she successfully continued her work in German theatre, where she received significant recognition for her performances.
