Maria Mauban, born Odette-Marie-Hélène Quignard (Marseille, 10 May 1924 – Montcresson, 26 August 2014), was a French actress. Her film career developed mainly in the post-war period, working with prominent directors such as Robert Bresson, for whom she provided the narration in *A Man Escaped* (*Un condamné à mort s'est échappé*, 1956), and Jean-Pierre Melville in the crime film *Le Doulos* (1962). Her other notable performances include Jean Delannoy's *Savage Triangle* (*Le Garçon sauvage*, 1951) and the comedy *Pas de week-end pour notre amour* (1950). She is also known to the general public for her role as Josépha Cruchot, the wife of the sergeant played by Louis de Funès, in the film *The Gendarme and the Extra-Terrestrials* (*Le Gendarme et les Extra-terrestres*, 1979). In addition to film, Mauban had a significant stage career, becoming a member of the prestigious Comédie-Française, and also worked extensively in television. Her filmography demonstrates a remarkable versatility, ranging from drama and noir to popular comedy, establishing her as a significant figure in 20th-century French cinema.
