Maria Pia Arcangeli
Maria Pia Arcangeli (Finale Ligure, 1910 – Lecco, 1970) was an Italian singer and a prominent figure in popular music during the 1930s and 1940s. Gifted with a melodic and delicate voice, she became one of the most popular performers of the EIAR, performing regularly with orchestras conducted by maestros such as Cinico Angelini and Pippo Barzizza. Her repertoire included songs that became classics of the era, such as "Maramao perché sei morto?", "La canzone del boscaiolo", "Il pinguino innamorato", and "C'è un'orchestra sincopata". Her style, characterized by a graceful and understated performance, perfectly embodied the musical tastes of the period, helping to define the so-called "canto all'italiana." Thanks to her vast popularity on radio and records, she is recognized as one of the most beloved "voices of the radio" of the twenty-year Fascist period. After the war, her activity gradually decreased, leaving a significant legacy in the history of Italian song.
