Marie Dubois

Marie Dubois (born Claudine Lucie Pauline Huzé; January 12, 1937 – October 15, 2014) was a French actress and an emblematic figure of French cinema. Considered one of the muses of the Nouvelle Vague, she was discovered by François Truffaut, who directed her in iconic films such as *Shoot the Piano Player* (1960), her breakout role, and *Jules and Jim* (1962). Her career took off, leading her to collaborate with directors such as Jean-Luc Godard in *A Woman Is a Woman* (1961) and to achieve enormous popularity with the general public with the box-office hit comedy *La Grande Vadrouille* (1966). Her talent was rewarded in 1978 with the César Award for Best Supporting Actress for her intense performance in Alain Corneau's film *La Menace*. Her acting career slowed down beginning in the 1980s due to multiple sclerosis, a disease she publicly campaigned against, becoming an important advocate.
