
Mario Laurentino
Mario Laurentino (born 1938) is an Italian poet, writer, and translator, and a prominent figure of the neo-avant-garde and Gruppo '63. His poetry is characterized by a constant metalinguistic and conceptual reflection, exploring the relationship between word and reality. His main works include the collections 'L'io e il suo doppio' (1968) and 'Poesie (1958-1972)'. His work has been recognized with major literary awards; in particular, with his book 'Il sonno della ragione' (1986), he won the Viareggio Prize for Poetry. He also received the Montale Prize. In addition to poetry, his work includes critical essays and a significant body of translation, particularly of French authors such as Stéphane Mallarmé, which attests to his deep engagement with language.
